MEET THE FAMILY

Family owned since 1960

The Diamond D Ranch is a family owned and operated business in the heart of the Salmon River Mountains.

Completely cut off from the power grid, electricity is provided by our very own hydro-electric generator. Communication to the ranch is made easy since the advent of the satellite phone and satellite based internet.

Tom and Linda Demorest

Tom first stepped on the ranch in 1951 as a 13 year old boy.  The ranch looked nothing like it does now.  There were no fences, no grass, no fields, not many buildings, but there was lots and lots of rock!!  Tom had an amazing vision of what the ranch could be.  With many years, blood, sweat, and tears...the ranch is now a wonderful getaway for guests to enjoy.  Of course, Tom couldn't do this all alone.  He had a lot of help and guidance from his wife, Linda.  Linda built up the guest season, while Tom built up the outfitting business and the ranch itself.  When you visit the ranch, be sure to ask Linda about the chapel, which took her 11 years to build.  And be sure to ask Tom to share some of the many stories of the old west and all the many characters that helped build the ranch.

Tom and Linda invite you to the Diamond D Ranch for friendly hospitality, excellent fishing, beautiful hiking, horse trails, and fabulous food.

Meet J.R., Kara, Dani and Johnnie Grace

Kara, daughter of Tom and Linda Demorest, now manages the ranch with her sister, Dana. She is the Guest Manager, making sure the guests have everything they could possibly need/want and that they have the best time ever! Kara also guides fly-fishing, hikes and trail rides when she isn't chasing her two daughters around, Dani and Johnnie Grace. J.R. is a seasoned pilot when he is not on the ranch.  He's flown for 22 years in the USAF, flying the F-15E, F-15C, F-16, and the A-10.  Currently, when J.R. is not on the ranch, he’s either flying for Delta Air Lines or flying the A-10 Warthog in the Idaho Air National Guard. On the ranch, J.R. is an all around handy guy. The ranch’s two, one-of-a-kind hydro-electric power systems are his specialty, but he is also a wonderful fly fishing guide, mechanic, and dabbles in just about everything.  Kara and J.R. love to share this beautiful valley with all the many guests who visit.

Dana Demorest, Ranch Manager

Dana is pure magic with the horses. There are about 40 head of horses at the ranch of all sizes, styles and personalities. She is trained in veterinary medicine as well and keeps the stock healthy. Dana also keeps the fields producing hay, the hot water hot, and the lights lit! Dana is a wonderful story teller and she would love to share with you her hundreds of ranch adventures, including care-taking the ranch in the winter months!  She can also tell the best jokes!
